Arul Chew & Partners came into existence on 6 January, 1996 and the firm is a full-service firm undertaking litigation (both criminal and civil), corporate work as well as arbitration and mediation.  Currently, the bulk of the work of the firm consists of litigation and arbitration (primarily corporate & commercial and business related disputes including intellectual property and construction) and corporate work (including due-diligence, deal negotiation, shareholder agreements as well as general corporate advisory work and general commercial agreements) as well as trusts and property related work (such as a construction project run as a hotel/serviced apartment in Myanmar) as well as insolvency.

The firm has been involved in all levels of litigation in the State Courts (previously known as the Subordinate Courts), High Court including the Court of Appeal as well as statutory and other tribunals including disciplinary tribunals of professional bodies and clubs/unincorporated associations and appeals/reviews therefrom and arbitration and mediation involving both local and international parties and sometimes working with foreign counsel, particularly in international arbitrations.  Some decisions have been reported in the local and foreign media. 

The firm works/has worked with foreign law firms’ lawyers in litigation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), particularly in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia the United Kingdom and Germany and has instructed and worked with Queen’s Counsel in England, New Zealand and Australia as well as President’s Counsel in Sri Lanka.

In its corporate advisory roles, the firm works/has also worked with law firms both local and from overseas in cross-border work primarily Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, Germany and Switzerland.
